Applications now open: Apply for the Professional Learning Program

Starting today, middle and high school teachers from all backgrounds can apply to our 2022 Professional Learning Program that prepares and supports educators to teach computer science. No previous computer science experience is necessary for two of the three courses available and many workshops are being held virtually!

Why teach computer science? Studies show that students who learn computer science perform better in other subjects, excel at problem solving, and are more likely to attend college. In other words, teaching computer science is a way to empower students to become the superheroes of tomorrow!

The program for middle and high school teachers is hosted by Regional Partners across the country, and is designed to prepare teachers before and during their first year teaching CS Discoveries, CS Principles, and — new this year! — CSA. In most regions, scholarships are available for educators to attend free of charge!

As a part of the program, teachers will receive week-long training in the summer and additional support throughout the school year to bring CS into their classrooms in the 2022–2023 school year. Participating teachers also recruit and support diverse groups of students to take advantage of CS courses.

Why participate in the Professional Learning Program?

Two reasons: proven results and active support, both during the initial workshop and during your first year teaching the course.

Proven results:

  •’s free-to-use curriculum is used in more than a third of schools nationwide. These span from large districts in Los Angeles and Dallas to suburban districts and small rural districts.
  • More than 100,000 teachers have participated in our Professional Learning program — and more than 90% of them would recommend it to another teacher!
  • A school’s participation in the program causes an estimated five-fold increase in the number of students that take and earn qualifying scores on the AP Computer Science Principles exam. And students who take AP exams are more likely to both enroll in and graduate from college.

Active support:

  • With a focus on a customized experience, participants work in small groups to deepen their understanding of the materials.
  • Participants and facilitators have the opportunity to share expertise and collaborate on strategies to bring to their classrooms, giving participants a chance to learn from everyone in the room.
  • Multiple check-ins during your first year teaching the course and year-round access to the forum, an online professional learning community that offers continued support with tools and content.
