New AP CSA professional learning from Code.org
Apply now for workshops starting this summer!
We are excited to offer professional learning for Code.org’s new AP© Computer Science A (CSA) curriculum launching later this month! You can apply right now for workshops beginning this summer.
Code.org’s equity-driven CSA curriculum introduces high school students to software engineering with creative projects connected to the real world as they learn the Java programming language.
The Code.org Professional Learning Program has both in-person and online supports designed to prepare teachers before and during their first year teaching CSA. The CSA PL program will also include an onboarding experience and a two-day follow-up workshop, or “capstone,” in the second summer of the program for all teachers.
What you get
Our CSA Professional Learning Program includes a five-day workshop hosted by a Code.org Regional Partner. During this experience, participants explore the curriculum and learning tools and build a community of teachers focused on creating an inclusive CS classroom.
The summer workshop is followed by a series of academic year workshops intended to provide just-in-time support for teachers throughout the year. Finally, a two-day “capstone” wraps up the program the following summer and is intended to be a time for participants to learn about upcoming changes to the curriculum, make a plan for their CSA classrooms for the following year, and consider what their next steps are to propel their own professional growth.
In addition, all teachers have access to the Code.org forum, an online community that offers continued support with tools and content, introduces new and helpful resources for teaching the course, and lets teachers continue to explore the curriculum.
What sets us apart
There are a few things that make our CSA curriculum and professional learning a little different. Most importantly, the Code.org CSA curriculum is designed for equity and considers cultural references and learning styles in every facet. Watch the following video for more information about our commitment to equity:
We hope you’re as excited as we are about these new offerings. Our goal is to create a CSA experience that energizes classrooms and works for teachers and students alike. If you’re interested, sign up for our CSA professional learning today.
