The Hour of Code around the world

Happy New Year from all of us at!

Revisiting Hour of Code 2017 is a great way to get motivated to expand computer science education in 2018. We’re happy to report that international excitement about the Hour of Code remains high: 59% of all Hour of Code events occurred outside of the United States in 2017!

We are so grateful to all of our international partners, teachers, and event organizers who celebrated Computer Science Education Week 2017. The Hour of Code reaches millions of students worldwide every year, and we know that this would not be possible without your hard work and tireless efforts. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The Hour of Code is the largest learning event in history and has reached every country in the world. Check out the 20 countries that had most events registered on in 2017!

We love seeing Hour of Code events taking place in schools! We hope that many schools will go beyond an Hour of Code to continue teaching computer science to all students. The countries below had the highest numbers of events occurring in-school.

Italy had another great year participating in the Hour of Code, recording the highest number of events per capita for two years in a row. Congratulations to our partners at CINI and all event organizers in Italy for keeping the momentum strong! The countries below had the highest number of events per capita, where the total number of events was greater than 10.

Thanks to the hard work of the team at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation as well as many other event organizers, Malaysia saw an extremely impressive increase in the number of Hour of Code events! The countries below had the highest growth rates in total number of events, where the number of 2016 and 2017 events were greater than 1.

Overall, more than 37.8 million Hours of Code were served in 2017. Thank you for helping us to reach students all over the world! We couldn’t have done it without you, and we need your help to keep the momentum going.
